Here’s part III of my series celebrating the 50th anniversary of Carole King’s Tapestry album. After I Feel the Earth Move, So Far Away and It’s Too Late, we’re up to the fourth track of the album’s A-side: Home Again.
Carole wrote both the music and the lyrics for this ballad. While it’s fair to say it’s a deeper cut, I’ve always dug this song. Carole just has a gift for great lyrics. An excerpt: Sometimes I wonder if I’m ever gonna make it home again/It’s so far and out of sight/I really need someone to talk to and nobody else/Knows how to comfort me tonight/Snow is cold, rain is wet/Chills my soul right to the marrow/I won’t be happy ’til I see you alone again/’Til I’m home again and feelin’ right.

every song on that album could have been a hit single.

So true and certainly something that cannot be said of most other albums.

I think had it been released ten years or so later there would have been more singles released- its a big accomplishment to have sold as many copies and stayed on the charts as long as it did- on a couple hit singles now that you look back at it.

Good point, Hans. It looks like Tapestry only spawned two singles.

This takes me back to being a kid…listening to this on my sisters record player.

Same here, Max!😀
And in my case also trying to phonetically sing in a language I didn’t understand a word of!
These songs just grabbed me right away, even though I was only 7 or 8 years old!

Yea the different language puts another spin on it!
I am that young again when I hear it….I guess music does that

Ha, putting another spin on it – I like it!
I’ve told my sister about the series. She still loves “Tapestry” as well. She’s currently on vacation and plans to read the posts I’ve published thus far from icy New Jersey tomorrow while relaxing in the sun by some pool.

The musical section in the middle of Home Again when the drums come in and the piano solo is like one of the musical high points of the whole album. I never get tired of hearing that. This could be the simplest song on tapestry but one of the greatest ones.

It’s interesting. Oftentimes, I find simple songs are the best. And, yes, the drums and Carole’s piano solo are great.
