  1. I didn’t know that Crocodile Rock was Elton John’s first number one song. I thought Rocket Man and Honky Cat were number one songs, about a year or so earlier. Or even Your Song. I guess not. I really like that album Don’t Shoot Me though, And I think it’s his second best album after Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Most of it is really excellent i think.

Based on Wikipedia’s single chart grid, I guess “The Boxer” didn’t do badly, getting to no. 6 in the UK and no. 7 in the U.S. That said, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” topped the charts in both countries. While I like that tune as well, I prefer “The Boxer.” In fact, I would pick it as my favorite Simon & Garfunkel song.

      1. Oh yeah, it’s still a well-know song. Just not at the level of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, which is an all-time giant. My favourite…? Maybe The Boxer, or Hazy Shade of Winter, which rocks
